Declarations of Victory Over Sin (Book Excerpt)

If Christians understood that sin was a matter of bondage and not just pleasure, many would quickly renounce it. They wouldn't be so cavalier as to imagine that all they had to do was ask for forgiveness quickly and it would be over. Let's look at Romans 6:16

Do you not know that if you offer yourselves to someone as slaves to obey, you are slaves of the master to whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

It was by obeying the teaching of God's Word (v. 17) that they were freed from the slavery of sin. Members, previously enslaved by immorality and injustice, must be put to the service of righteousness, must honor God's law. Thus, to be a slave of God is to be master over darkness. This is very profound.

Here's yet another demonstration that exercising authority isn't just about tackling the devil. It's about exercising authority over yourself, stripping yourself of the old self—your desires, your longings, your flesh. This allows you to function more effectively in your authority. Sin is a distraction you cannot afford if you are determined to rule the earth.

Prayer

Father, I surrender myself to you. I separate myself from sin forever. I place my members at the service of righteousness, to obey your laws. I want to progress in holiness.

Statement

1. I declare victory over the flesh and every form of sin. I refuse to submit to it.

2. I no longer have the same desires as before. Bad desires leave me.

3. I am totally surrendered to God.

4. I am no longer a slave to impurity and injustice.

5. I place my members at the service of God as instruments of justice.
   
   

6. I am a slave of God to obey Him in all my conduct.

7. I renounce all the evil works I used to do.

8. Sin no longer reigns in my body to subject me to its desires. It will no longer have power over me.

9. I put off the old man and put on the new man.

10. I have dominion over the flesh, but it does not have dominion over me.

11. I put to death all the works of the flesh.

 Your declarations must go beyond declarations of victory over the devil; you must declare your victory over the flesh and sin, continuously, as a way of life. Reminders of your old life will come, sometimes from friends, who want to entice you to continue the same activities. Behind the inviting smile and friendliness, let your ears be open to hear the satanic sneer and say no. Say, I am surrendered to God and I have renounced my old ways. If you dare not assert yourself, you will find yourself chained again.

In the spiritual world, authority is a reality. Everyone is under someone's authority. Your behavior shows who you submit to, who exercises authority over you. And the major decision every child of God must make in their life is to submit to God. Understand this: there can be no resistance against the forces of darkness without first submitting to God. Otherwise, it's just appeasement and negotiation, as many occultists do.
