Monday Morning Reflections

Yesterday, the service was splendid. Another challenge overcome: we held service in the afternoon in Boulogne because our usual Parisian venue was booked. And it was wonderful. Sunday, we returned to Paris.

It's so nice not to be rushed into returning the room, not to have to set up the equipment and take it down after the service. This has made us want our own space even more, so we're off on a more intensive search this week.

Punctuality has nothing to do with the time of worship; even in the afternoon, there are latecomers and even absentees. We have often been told that our meetings are too early, but here is proof that this has nothing to do with it. It is a question of values and discipline.

God doesn't need music for powerful worship. The music stuttered, we stopped, and the voices praised God even more fervently. A visitor once told me, "In churches, they sing song after song, and it's just the songs, but you really worship." Yes, that's the point, otherwise the songs are useless. It's our hearts that should sing to the Lord, not our lips. He's not fooled.

I preached on tithing and I enjoyed myself, and I think they did too. I quoted Martin Luther, yes, the great reformer, driving force behind the Protestant Reformation, who said that man needs two conversions, the first that of his soul and the second that of his wallet.

John Wesley also said that the last part of a man to be converted is his wallet. Ouch. Let's work for the conversion of our wallets. We are made in the image of God and God's nature is to give.

So, here we go for a week in His presence. On the agenda: Bible studies, counseling sessions, room searches, evangelistic websites, various writings, prayer, reconciliation of men with God… All to the glory of the Father.
