Psalm 121 says 'The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your covering shade, he stands at your right hand. The sun will not hurt you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.'
The Lord is a refuge
The Lord is a shelter or a shade. This may elude those who live in a cold climate and are drawn to the sun during the times of year when it makes its presence felt. However, those who live in hot climates will easily appreciate the value and great protection provided by shade. When you are coming home from the blazing sun, sweaty and exhausted, any place where you can seek shelter from the heat is welcome. You stop to rest before heading out again to face the sweltering heat, and what a joy it is when you finally enter your cool home, throw yourself on the couch, and pour yourself a glass of cold water that has been sitting in the refrigerator. It is a kind of deliverance. You are invigorated. This is what Isaiah says about God. Isaiah 25:4 NIV- UK 4 You are a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the afflicted in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.
Since heat is a source of distress and discomfort in hot countries, people demand that it be kept away, and shelter becomes a place of refuge and protection. It is not only a shelter, it is also very close. This is what the image of the right hand signifies. The right hand is also the hand that does not carry a shield and is therefore defenseless, so God quickly intervenes to defend the defenseless. Remember this verse: "My eyes are always fixed on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be moved"? The presence of the Lord at his right hand keeps him strong and stable, no matter the circumstances. It preserves him from destruction.
We know that thieves break in when we are away from home or in the dead of night, when people are caught in the grip of sleep. We have surveillance cameras that operate day and night in some places; others have a 24-hour police escort. Some had, as was sometimes the case in my childhood, a night watchman and a day watchman. And it was not uncommon for the night watchman to be caught sleeping blissfully all night with the gate open. But it is different with God. His protection is continuous and effective. This is why the psalmist says that he protects from all evil.
We all face potential perils, whether in the material or spiritual darkness of the world. Fear can creep in, as can anxiety and the feeling that it will never be over. Trusting God is the antidote because He is always attentive and nothing escapes Him. He is never distracted, never caught asleep, and before Him, nothing is hidden. He is close to His children. Tell yourself that when you wake up, He is there, even in the dead of night. He is always present, attentive, and vigilant.
Protective father.
We must admire God as the God of Israel. However, we must also love and know Him as our protective Father, the One who keeps us. This is personalized protection. He protects you because you are His child. Think about it, say it, reflect on it. It is important to free ourselves from the feeling of vulnerability and weakness that can arise when we realize that our body is not healthy and that we are suffering from an illness. The protective shadow is on the right, even without a shield. He stands near us and delivers us.
The Holy Spirit helps us know God by revealing the Father to us. This is an extraordinary help He gives us and allows us to know God's closeness. Be encouraged in knowing that not only does He guard and protect you, but He is also attentive and close to you. Do not be afraid of sudden deterioration, unexpected complications, or any other problems that may arise when exercising faith to be healed. God is close to you to protect you, and He will guide you away from danger.
Whatever the circumstance, illness, or otherwise, remember that God has chosen to let you know that He keeps you safe at all times, day and night. Fear neither the sun nor the moon, whatever that represents in your situation. Tell Him that you refuse to be struck day or night because your wonderful Father is watching over you. Then sleep like a baby. We are safe under His protection.
Free from all evil
The Lord protects us from all harm. This statement covers every plague that man may face. In all these situations, the Lord promises his protection. These include physical attacks, mental attacks, demonic attacks that cause infirmities, and so on. Sickness is harmful and should be treated as such. The psalmist then boldly asserts that he will protect your life. Can we see here that a child of God can expect to be preserved from life-threatening illnesses and all deadly attacks? It seems strange, yet this is what is written here, and it is true. We can renew our minds to understand this.
While we cannot remove these passages from the Bible, we are required to believe them. This is the promise, and we can expect it; the only exception to this rule may be when we choose to give our lives for the gospel. Evil is the devil's stock in trade; sickness is not God's gift to man; healing is. Damage, destruction, accidents, demonic oppression, and satanic attacks on the mind and body are not God's promise to man; they are a consequence of the fall. We must hold fast to the protection from evil and receive it by faith. We should expect to be protected from all evil. The question is whether we are willing and will believe it.
He protects, and we rely on Him for protection, free from all fear because He never sleeps or slumbers. Every child of God can and should live with the active awareness of God's protective hand upon them. Meditate on the idea that God protects you from all harm. What does this look like to you? It means that His help is there to relieve pain and remove the evil that has affected your body. He is able and available to expel the tumor, correct the dysfunction of the cells, and anything harmful to the body. We can trust Him today.
In Psalm 97:10, the psalmist commands those who love the Lord to hate evil, declaring that the Lord protects the lives of His faithful ones and saves them from the power of the wicked. Scripture clearly confirms that we can expect God to watch over our lives. This comprehensive protection is evidenced by the fact that the Lord protects our comings and goings, now and forever. He offers complete protection. This means that God protects you in every place, in every circumstance, and at every time. Total and endless protection. It behooves us to reflect on these things.
