chosen to serve, what an honor! / the honor of being chosen to serve

I had a thought this morning, I'm glad God has called me to serve Him. I was meditating on God's word this morning and suddenly, I was overwhelmed with a keen awareness of God's indescribable greatness. Suddenly, I felt happy, honored to be called by God to serve Him. There was a time when, like many, I hated the idea of 'ministry,' seeing myself badly stuck spending the rest of my life dealing with unpleasant, selfish people who made the Pastor the main course of every meal. But needless to say, God has been there over the years.

Today For me, it is the supreme honor to be called by God to speak in His name. It frightens me and rejoices my heart at the same time. And we have come to realize that, in reality, we are all called to the ministry, because every sphere of our lives is supposed to reflect Jesus and draw men to Jesus. It is strange, it is wonderful, but it is no less frightening that the Almighty entrusts us with the advancement of His kingdom and the salvation of men.

This makes me think, but who does God think we are, after all? And from this springs a determination to become everything God desires before taking leave of this planet. It is an honor that you and I have been called to serve God. This is what I feel in my gut, not as a minister but as a simple believer.

This is also the ethic that I want to establish around me, to always feel privileged that God asks us to clean His church, receive the offering, welcome people into His church, that He gives us the opportunity to speak in His name to people in the subway, on the bus, in the street.

It is a privilege to serve God. I am struck by a little phrase that Oral Roberts's mother said to him: 'Stay small in your own eyes.' Pride is not the preserve of 'God's great anointed'; all are tempted; let him who finds himself alone with a skill that the church desperately needs not be proud of it, but rather let him be grateful that God has chosen to position him there in this season, and let him serve with joy and thankfulness, remembering that God does not suffer a shortage of people; He has a few billion left in reserve; let him who hinders His work through pride be sidelined and replaced.

My cry is that God keep me at the heart of what He is doing on earth, I don't want to miss out. I will remain small in my own eyes without competing with God. I simply love the fact that I was chosen.

English version

I am glad that God called me to serve Him. As I meditated on God's word today, something of a sense of the awesomeness of God hit my soul and I just felt glad, honored to be called of God. I used to, like many others, hate the idea of doing ministry. I did not want to be stuck spending my life dealing with irritating, selfish people who eat Pastor for breakfast. I don't suffer fools gladly and I had other things to do with my life. But as God has dealt with me over the years, I have come to consider it a supreme honor to be called by God to speak on His behalf. It frightens and delights me. We have also come to understand that we are all called to ministry, every sphere of our lives is meant to reflect Jesus and draw men to Jesus. It is a strange thing, and it is a beautiful thing, yet it is a frightening thing that the Almighty will entrust the advancement of His kingdom and the salvation of men's souls to us.

It makes me wonder, who does God think we are? And it makes me determined to become all that He desires me to be before I take leave of this earth. It is an honor for you and I to be called to serve God. That truly is the way I feel, not only as a minister but as a believer.

And that's the ethos I want to promote around me; we must always feel privileged that God would ask us to, say, clean His church, take the offering, usher, that He would give us the opportunity to speak on His behalf to people in the metro, on the bus, and on the streets.

It is a privilege to serve God. I have never been able to get away from something Oral Roberts's mother said to him as he began in ministry, 'Stay small in your own eyes'. Yet pride is not the exclusive preservation of the 'anointed man of God'; anyone can fall prey; if you ever find yourself with a skill your church desperately needs, don't preen, just be grateful God chose you to be there in this season and serve with joy and gratitude, remembering that God is not short of staff; He has several billion in reserve. When we let our pride come in the way of God's work we can easily get sidelined and replaced.

My cry is that God will keep me at the center of what He's doing in the earth, I do not want to miss out. I will remain small in my own eyes and not compete with God. I just enjoy being chosen.
