When a righteous person prays, his prayer is very effective. 17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three and a half years it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain again, and the earth produced its crops. James 5:16

Prayer, at its core, is simply communicating with God. Through this communication, we express our love, praise, and admiration; it also involves making requests for God's favorable intervention to change a negative situation, whether in our favor, in someone else's favor, or in a family or public cause, etc. The quality of our lives and our relationship with God is conditioned by the quality of our prayer lives. However, there are a number of things we must understand about prayer.

4 points to note about prayer.

Prayer is a divine instruction. It's perhaps the simplest reason to develop a prayer life: obedience. But as we know, obedience to God is the gateway to God's blessings. Prayer is powerful and effective. When we pray, God's power is released to change the situations we want to see changed. This is how we learn that the fervent prayer of a righteous man is very effective. Eli's example is very telling: he prays and stops the rain, he prays again, and the rain returns. And we have the same capacity for prayer that he did.
Prayer works to manifest God's will. Since the fall, there has been a discord between God's will and the reality manifested on earth, and God works through the prayers of His people to align circumstances on earth with His will. Thus, through our prayers, He manifests healing in the bodies of people. Through our prayers, He affects governments. Through our prayers, He saves the lost and opens their hearts to receive the gospel. Prayer invites God's response to every situation in life.
Answers to prayer are guaranteed. We learn in 1 John that if we ask for something according to His will, He hears us and we can expect to receive it. In reality, we must have the assurance that we already possess the thing. This is the degree of guarantee that God gives. But who will dare to believe and persevere in prayer?

Ask God to work on you so that you can pray and have the same results than Elijah.
Take authority over everything spirit of heaviness who comes to prevent you from praying as you should.
Ask that God make you an intercessor for your local church. (this point is crucial, because God has a major work on earth, it is His church and He will teach you to pray if you want to pray for the church)
