One of the key points for deliverance is forgiveness. The moment you hold a grudge, you close the door to deliverance. Forgiveness is not about accepting the wrong done; it's about obeying God. This allows you to eject demons and close the door so they don't return.
A sad story
A few years ago, a young girl came to me in tears because she had fallen into immorality. While praying for her, the Holy Spirit revealed that she had been assaulted when she was a child. Someone had sexually abused her. Something had been injected into her and it was drawing her into immorality. We don't excuse sin, but sometimes there are things in the past that open the door to immorality. To be completely free, she had to forgive and move on.
If you want to be free, you must forgive.
Why forgiveness and deliverance?
- Because the devil is a legalist and uses any misconduct on our part to justify his attacks. Unforgiveness is a sin because it is a refusal of God's command to forgive.
- When we forgive, we are freed from bitterness, regrets, hatred, etc., which further closes the door to the devil.
- When we forgive, this act of obedience triggers healing, restoration, and rest. The devil cannot operate under these conditions. Instead, this obedience attracts God's favor and leads to restoration.
- Because submission to God is essential to be able to resist the devil.
So, if you need to go through deliverance, first confess your sins before the Lord, then repent and dedicate yourself to God. It is when you are cleansed of disobedience and rededicated entirely to God that you can command the evil spirits to leave you.
A testimony of forgiveness
At the last deliverance meeting at the end of July, I encouraged a young man I didn't know to share his testimony about what God had done in his life. I had seen how powerfully God had touched him in the room, and I thought he must have something to say to honor the Lord. And it was absolutely true. He shared his testimony about the grace of being able to respond to the invitation to attend that meeting when he was being asked elsewhere. And by being there, he was able, thanks to God, to grant forgiveness to someone he bitterly resented. He resented this person so much that he couldn't say their name. By granting forgiveness, God powerfully visited him, and sitting in his seat, without any personalized human intervention, he received his deliverance and full restoration.
