I walked into the room Sunday morning in the middle of the Roots class as they were showing the final segment on the person of Jesus, where I was discussing Jesus pre-incarnation, incarnate, and post-incarnation. When one is, like me, fascinated by His divinity and His pre- and post-incarnational glory, one should also avoid underestimating the extraordinary power He displayed on earth. Over-familiarity with the text could dull our wonder at the extraordinary impact of His physical presence on earth.
Rereading the Gospel of Mark, I was, happily, struck by this again. Jesus travels the country, He teaches, He heals, He does good; and everywhere He goes, people come out, and more, in villages, towns, market places, the sick are brought to Him, they are placed on His path. The goal, so that they touch the hem of His garment, nothing less, so that they are healed. I tell myself that good news travels fast. The woman who suffered from an issue of blood is now famous, now it is known, the hem of His garment is touched and power comes out of Him to heal. And Mark 6 tells us that all those who did it, i.e. all those who touched His garment were healed. Amazing.
