Living Rich for Less – Ellie Kay (2 copies to give away)

Ellie Kay has a story to tell; and on the basis of her story and using entertaining and enlightening examples, she shares how to manage money and live well with a modest income. Her bio reads “Ellie knows what it's like to be financially-strapped or struggling, wanting to be the Joneses but feeling as poor in spirit as in pocketbook. She went, within two and a half years, from being a new wife and mom with $40,000 in consumer debt and seven children (and college educations) to support, to be completely debt-free and within fifteen years able to pay cash for eleven different cars, give away three of those cars, buy two five-bedroom houses (moving from one to the other) and nicely furnish each, take wonderful vacations, dress her family in fine fashion; and support more than thirty non-profit organizations in more than a dozen different countries, giving away more than $100,000.”

Her tone is witty, clever, at times touching. With chapter titles like Little Miss Moneybag grows up, Investing for Idiots, Fun, Fun, Fun, Shopping to save, Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble, you will laugh and learn as she gives tips for saving, giving and spending – the 10/10/80 rule to achieve not only financial security but a high quality of life and relationships. Some of the illustrations must of course be adapted to the European context, some investment vehicles mentioned for instance are US specific. Yet at a time when many are troubled by the financial situation, this book is worth a read.
