Prison Break – Breaking the Limits

Lately I have been confronted a lot with the issue of limits. I have had to challenge people to break out of the prison of their thoughts, and the straitjacket in which they have been locked. In reality, when we become disciples of Jesus, we are called to a mental transformation; to truly begin to understand that we are able to think, dream big, and expect great things. In other words, to no longer be limited in our expectations. And how can it be otherwise since we are supernatural beings who serve a supernatural God.

Which means being able to get used to His way of working, expecting what He says He wants to happen to happen, despite appearances to the contrary. Which also means breaking free from the chains of tradition, conformity, the human calendar, and aiming for excellence. It is so easy to no longer expect anything good because according to the norm you cannot expect this or that thing to happen, and if it were to happen, certainly not before a certain stage, or sometimes not after, and you are always excluded from it.

You will hear people say 'you don't start ministry at sixty, you should have started thirty years ago; you don't have babies at 45; you don't lead a church at twenty, wait your turn, you're too young; women don't have the right to preach; women can preach but can't be pastors; ah but you should have bought the house ten years ago, it's too late, prices have skyrocketed, there's a crisis; you're a woman, a man, a foreigner, a native, so it's not possible; it's too early, too late; the list is endless'. And we let it happen, while telling ourselves that God can do anything, but still afflicted by an almost imperceptible feeling of not being up to it, which continues to whisper to you that it's impossible.

Well no, anything is possible. For most people, their problem isn't that they believed a lot and received little. What afflicts many of us is that we reduce our expectations over the years to a bare minimum, telling ourselves that there's no need to bother God with our unrealistic demands, but rather to hide in a life of mediocrity and dull despair. No. Everyone carries within them a dream of God, a passion, an ambition waiting to blossom. Since we belong to the One who is in no way limited by natural circumstances, every second of our lives must be devoted to a strong thought, a strong idea, a strong action, something worthy of a great God. We must force ourselves to get rid of the survival mentality and adopt thoughts of transformation, of change...

God loves to deal with those who are bold, who embrace challenges and decide to break through boundaries and break through. The Bible says that the people who know their God will be strong and will do exploits. Delicious, this potential to be a champion. We frustrate His omnipotence when our life credo is to stay hidden in a corner until Jesus returns to take us to heaven. Can we claim to serve a strong, powerful, and majestic God and remain so uncontaminated by His greatness? It should still rub off on us; those who don't know Him should be able to see a certain courage, a certain audacity, a certain alacrity, see people who walk on water rather than fearful people incapable of facing reality.

With brilliance He parted the Red Sea, with panache He surrounded them with a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire, with dexterity He maneuvered in the history of His chosen people to bring about the accomplishment of His plans; with unheard-of wisdom, to the great displeasure of the powers taken by surprise, He introduced His son into the history of man, with alacrity He resurrected him from the dead, forever rewriting the drama that is the history of man. Is it illogical to expect that this God would express His power in our time, and does He not deserve a people who will disregard conventions, who will step out of the boat and say Yes, Lord.

We have the privilege of being that people.
